Here's what I don't understand: DLp creates 3 folders -- raw | tif | web -- a convenience for sure but DLp doesn't place CR2 photos in the raw folder or am I missing some token setting?

Are these folder names customizable by user or are they hard wired? If they are customizable, where do they reside?

And if user enables DNG plug-in, DLp doesn't create a DNG folder, etc.

Finally, if user enables DNG conversion, doesn't this mean user can delete CR2 files + txt files as all this is presumably located within the DNG file?

TIA -janrif

You can use the "Directory Maker" plug-in to create extra folders to support your workflow. If you use the token %E1 as part of the download directory (e.g. D:\Photos\%Y-%m-%D\%E1) raw files will be downloaded to a sub folder called raw.

You can specify these in the setup screen for the Directory Maker plug-in. The values of the %E, %E1 and %E2 tokens are fixed (please see the help file for details of the various tokens).

You can specify the folder where the DNG files are stored in the setup screen for the DNG plug-in

This is entirely up to you. Personally I would always keep a copy of the original raw file as a backup. The raw file is only embedded in the DNG file if you select this option when creating it.

Chris, thanks very much for your patient reply. I set up most of what I wanted as per your instructions & it's wonderful how much time this saves me. I've got the sub-directories & I'm now able to put DNG & RAW where I want them.

I generally shoot RAW but suppose I set my Canon to make JPEG copies, how would I set up a direct deposit to the JPEG folder?

I reviewed the tokens as you suggested but I'm not sure if I get the format, i.e. how to state it properly? Can I do it w one command w commas or piping or....? Ex: %E1,%E2? Thanks for help. -janrif

The easiest way to explain this is to give an example e.g. JPEGs and raws shot today:

D:\Photos\%Y-%m-%D\%E
raws are downloaded to D:\Photos\2006-04-12\RAW
JPEGs are downloaded to D:\Photos\2006-04-12\JPG

D:\Photos\%Y-%m-%D\%E1
raws are downloaded to D:\Photos\2006-04-12\RAW
JPEGs are downloaded to D:\Photos\2006-04-12

D:\Photos\%Y-%m-%D\%E2
raws are downloaded to D:\Photos\2006-04-12
JPEGs are downloaded to D:\Photos\2006-04-12\JPG

You can experiment with different settings in preferences and then look at the "Download path" column in the DLPro window to see where the files will be downloaded to.

BTW I will move this thread to the Downloader Pro section tomorrow.

Understood & apologize for posting to the wrong forum; realized it yesterday. Since u r moving it I will respond here to keep the thread together.

Chris, I'm sorry, I'm still confused by this folder naming thing. Specifically,
- in directory/folder plug-in I named 4 folders: DNG, JPG, RAW & Select TIFFs
- in path I set %J to be prompted for a code + %E1\D
- in file name I included r8 since I'm using Mark II

The result is that RAW has nested the 4 folders from directory plug-in
And JPG has nested the same four folders
Also my DNG files are not being placed inside the DNG folder even tho I have specified this in the DNG plug-in setting

I don't get it. I just can't get my head around this for some strange reason. -janrif

It's hard to help without knowing the exact settings you're using and what you're trying to achieve. Please can you post screenshots of each of the setup screens?

DNG plug in problem solved by upgrading from v3.1 to 3.3. Sure slows process down but works seamlessly.

Enabled plug-ins
JPEG auto profile
Director Maker
JPEG resolution
DNG

Directory Maker = DNG, JPG, RAW, Select TIFFs
DNG Directory = DNG

Preferences: prompt for job code
file name = %J %L (or %r8)
download path = ..\%b%D%y\%E

Goal: create & place different type files in ready made folder for that file type, i.e. DNG, JPEG, CS2 pluse a folder for post production, i.e. Selected TIFFs to be used by BBp (step 2 in my work flow)

TIA - janrif

The download path needs to be absolute not relative e.g. something like D:\%b%D%y\%E
The directory for the DNG file can be absolute or relative to the download directory for the raw file. Try using ..\DNG
