Hi,

I know, this is not a new question, but reading all the threads, I failed to understand all the discussion about Rotation from images. Here my problem:

I use in my workflow first DLpro and BBpro for downloading, sorting and renaming my images. Therefore I love BBpro, cause the browsing-speed is fast, the option to display and rename RAW+JPG is great.
Than I change to IView for catalogize my images and Photoshop.

I deselected the option in BBpro to use EXIF orientation flag, because I´ve got problems in IView and Photoshop with the file-rotation. But if I now rotate images RAW+JPG without exif orientation, the images are correct display in Photoshop and IView, but in BBpro, if I display RAW und JPG not linked, the JPG´s are not rotated, the RAW´s are rotated (MRW´s !!). That´s very confusing for me.

If I understood Chris correct, Rotation from linked RAW+JPG uses all times the EXIF orientation, even if this option is deselected in preferences. This I can´t understand. Why is it not possible to rotate RAW+JPG without the EXIF orientation. So I have to deselect the RAW+JPG linking before I rotate my images, and after rotation I select the Link-Option again.

Tobias

Update:
now, if I rotate the RAW´s and JPG´s for themselfes and link then again RAW+JPG: if I go then to the main view, the image in the main-view is wrong rotated again. tell me why ? Ist it a problem with all RAW-Files or is it only using MRW´s ????

You need to use EXIF Orientation if you want to link the viewing of RAW+JPEG files. Raw files can only be rotated using EXIF orientation and when BBPro uses the linked JPEG for display it rotates it by the EXIF orientation in the raw file. It isn't possible to display the JPEGs with the right rotation if the JPEG image data has also been rotated.

Recent versions of Photoshop (CS and Cs2) should handle EXIF orientation correctly.

Chris,

thank you for explaining this again. I worked with EXIF orientation till I tried to use the version function in IViewMediapro. This functions also with Photoshop:

If I open a JPG-File from IView in Photoshop and save it, a old version of the original file can be stored in a special folder from IView. This works, but the JPG-File of the old version is then wrong rotated.
So if I have a JPG-File, rotated with EXIF orientation in BBpro, than imported in IView, stored in the version folder and handled/saved in Photoshop: the new file ist rotated correct, but the old file in the version folder is not correct rotated. To my post in the IView-forum I got the tip to deselect the EXIF orientation, but thats not really the solution. I think now the problem is in the version handling from IView, not in BBpro.

Thanks a lot

Tobias
