View Full Version : 20D - embedded JPG?

I have a 20D and notice in 2.11 when viewing a raw preview file in full size with HQ turned off, that it generates an embedded jpg. Yet, the 20D doesn't have embedded jpgs and I shot the pic in RAW only. Is this something that Breeze is doing on it's own? Somehow extracting data from the RAW file to create a jpg? Or does the RAW only file with the 20D really contain an embedded jpg? I don't see any mention of that in the Canon manual.

With HQ turned on, it generates a converted RAW image like the manual says.

Curious as to what is going on in my first paragraph above?

Thanks!

The 20D and Mark IIs' RAW files have very nice embedded 1024x1538 jpgs, but Canon's own software won't extract them. Canon says they're only there for the lcd screen to have something to zoom in on. AFAIK, BB is the only app that will extract them.

Very interesting - probably explains why manual says nothing about them and reviews (dpreview) I read on the camera, didn't mention them either. Thanks for the tip!
