Hello,

Has anyone got G2Remote on Vistaq running OK?

I was trying to setup my laptop (only had choice of Vista or Vista :) ) to run G2Remote on my balcony to test time-lapse for the lunar eclipse tomorrow night (east coast of Australia).

I found this blog reference
http://stephen.evilcoder.com/archives/2007/02/25/canon-powershot-g2-and-windows-vista
to download the Canon WIA drivers for Win 2000.

G2Remote will take a photo but as it is saving it to the hard drive I get an error message
"G2Remote MFC Application has stopped".

Any help would be appreciated, as due to the Moon's position in the night sky tomorrow I need my laptop rather than a desktop running Win 98.

Thanks

:)

Margaret

I'm sorry G2Remote or PSRemote are not designed to run on Windows Vista. Canon haven't released a PowerShot SDK (software development kit) for Windows Vista yet and so it isn't currently possible to run PSRemote on Vista.

Canon don't list any Windows Vista drivers for the G2 on their website (www.powershot.com) and so I don't think it is possible control a G2 on Vista.

Thanks Chris.

I did have G2Remote running OK on my laptop running Vista with the Win2000 drivers.

I installed the DSLRRemote for evaluation and borrowed a friend's 350D Rebel. They were so happy with the results they are now owners of DSLRRemote. :) :) I'm undecided between buying the 350D now or waiting for the new Canon.

I removed the DSLRRemote from the laptop, reinstalled the Win2000 drivers for the G2. I cannot get G2Remote to work - the camera releases the shutter but it does not display or save the image.

Is there something else that I need to remove/re-install from the DLSR Remote version? Does G2Remote and DSLRRemote clash?

Thanks,

Margaret

I'd definitely recommend waiting for the Canon EOS 40D for tethered shooting as it has the same excellent live viewfinder display as the Canon EOS-1D Mark III (much better than PowerShot cameras). I should be getting my 40D next week will be updating DSLR Remote Pro, BreezeBrowser Pro and Downloader Pro to support the new camera.

PSRemote and DSLR Remote Pro should not conflict in any way. They are installed in different folders and use different libraries and drivers. You could try going back to a system restore point when the G2 worked on your system.
