View Full Version : Wrong Job Code since upgr 2.0.3

Hi everybody,

Since the upgrade to 2.0.3 It's a bit awkward to get the proper Job code in.

I have set DLpro to prompt me for a Job Code every time a new card is inserted in the card reader.

After typing it in (or selecting from the drop down) it shows ok. I then click on preferences button, because I want to reset the sequence number (just for the first card).

Then I need to fill in some fields in the IPTC data. (shoot location etc)

After that the download starts but I can already see, in the thumbnail view, where it shows the DL path, that it has replaced the Job code in the file name with the previous Job Code used.

I have to cancel out of the DL, erase the files already on HDD, and start again. This time without resetting the sequence, and without filling in IPTC, because that's already there.

I feel that the problem is caused by not downloading immediately after choosing the Job Code, but making a side step first to prefs and IPTC.

However after prefs/IPTC there is no way to check/correct the Job Code.

It wasn' like this in the previous version that I used (1.7)

Windows XP SP2, Canon 1DsII, 1DII, 5D

Thanks!
Rob

You've stumbled into an interaction between the job code prompt and the date-based job code feature.

If you have "Save date based job codes..." set on the Preferences page, I recommend you do not set the "Prompt for job code every time Downloader Pro is run" option. Instead, when the listing of files comes up, change the job code for each date appropriately.

If you are trying to do full automation and always want the same job code and IPTC data for all images on the card, it may work that way you want if you disable the "Save date based job codes..." option, but I have not tried that.

I, too, have been frustrated to find that the job code entered in the prompt that comes up when a card is inserted is replaced by something else from the past.

I have set "Ask for job code" and not set for "Remember...".

No particular sequence has been identified, yet.

I have to admit that I have wondered since version 2 came out that I have wondered how this was supposed to work. The following account of my download today may help others to check if their experience is similar.

I am using version 2.0.3, and, contrary to Guy's advice, I have both options set. I also have DL Pro prompt for IPTC data on start-up. I use the Job Code as a basic caption to describe each shoot (which may be edited later on a frame-by-frame basis in BB Pro).

Today's card had shots taken on three days. I set the 'automated' Job Code and IPTC data for Day 1, and the new Job Code was applied to all three dates. I then right-clicked on the other dates in turn to set the Job Codes for those dates.

At that point, I had three dates, each with its own job code, making a kind of agenda. I then clicked on the Day 1 date to select the frames for that day, and downloaded them and deleted them from the card. Then I reset the IPTC data for Day 2, clicked on that, and downloaded and deleted again. I repeated the Day 2 process for Day 3.

I don't find this process particularly elegant or intuitive, but it gets the job done, and the images do contain the IPTC data I specified. The major difference between Rob's case and mine seems to be that he is using the Job Code in the file name, and I am not. So the issue seems to be the way that DL Pro is interpreting {J} as a file naming token.

Hope this helps.

It looks as though there is a problem with updating the job code when prompt for job code is set AND date based job codes are selected AND the "Prefrerences" button is pressed from the job code dialog at startup. If you run DLPro and cancel the job code dialog then select Edit->Job code... and then change the job code and press the "Preferences" button it works fine.
I'll look into the problem and fix it in the next release.

If you select Edit->Job code... it edits the job code for all dates. If date based job codes is selected in preferences you can right click on the date in the date list in the main window to set different job codes for different dates.

Thanks everybody for reacting.

Chris, To reproduce the problem "Save date based job codes..." in Preferences-General does NOT need to be checked. (I have not ticked it anyway).

It is simply caused (IMO) by the "roundtrip" made to preferences after typing (or selecting) the job code.

If I select the job code and then simply DL, the proper job code is retained. i.o.w the job code seems to be cancelled when going to Preferences.

Indeed I use the job code to compile the new file name. Most of the time is designates the client. In Dlpro it's followed by the date, then a sequence nr, then a mapped camera id.

If the image would be the first shot for KLM airways on a shoot today it would (after downloading) look like this: KLM-070829-0001-5D.cr2

Looking forward to the next release,
Greetings
