View Full Version : A70 Slow to Respond

Hi,

I want to fire my A70 via the command line interface from the Webcam monitor software.

We currently have a video camera hooked up to this and when someone walks through the door it captures a jpeg. This all works fine except the quality is not good enough and this is why we want to to use a digital still camera instead (we may still use the video camera for triggering the still camera).

I haven't actually hooked it up to Webcam Monitor yet but when I take a picture from the command prompt using PSRemoteTest, it takes about 3 seconds for the shutter to trigger. The only problem with this is that the person is well and truly out of sight by the time it takes the picture.

Is there any way to speed up the camera?

Regards,

Lee.

Yes, the A70 is rather slow. The latest PowerShot models are somewhat faster but are still nowhere near as fast as an SLR. You can speed things up a bit by using AF lock.

Thanks Chris,

I tried using the AF Lock but it didn't make much difference.

Forgive my ignorance but is an SLR camera digital? Will it work with PS remote?

Lee.

Yes, digital SLR like the Canon EOS 400D/Rebel XTi or the new Canon EOS 40D.

Will it work with PS remote?

No, but it will work with DSLR Remote Pro (40D support will be available soon). Until recently digital SLRs did not have the ability to display live images but the latest models (e.g. Canon EOS 40D and Canon EOS-1D Mark III) can now do this. The live view is very good, but isn't really intended for extended viewing for several hours.
