DSLR Remote Pro v1.5 RC1 adds an autofocus option in live view when using a Canon EOS-1D Mark III or Canon EOS 40D. This works using a contrast detection algorithm applied to a user defined area of the live view display (or the central 1/5 of the zoomed display). The camera needs to be mounted on a tripod for autofocus to work as it takes several seconds to achieve optimum focus.

This pre-release version can be downloaded from:

The full release should be available later this month.

Quick start for live view and AF: Enable live view in the camera (40D or 1D Mark III only) and set the lens to AF. Connect the camera to your PC using the USB cable and run DSLR Remote Pro. When DSLR Remote Pro has connected to the camera type Ctrl+L to display the live view and Ctrl+F to activate AF. The focus area is highlighted in red during AF and reverts to white after AF. The focus area can be dragged to focus on different parts of the image in the full size live view. The lens can also be focused manually using the mouse wheel, left and right cursor keys or the buttons in the live view window.
