View Full Version : How can we selectively download images?

I am in love with DLPro, but I haven't been able to select which images to download. Am I missing something, or is there a way to do it?

Here is what I have in mind. A speaker at a recent conference talked about making a quick slideshow of images at a wedding. He shoots Raw + small Jpeg at the ceremony. At dinner he downloads the Jpeg images only to his laptop because it is much faster than downloading the raw files, and time is extremely limited. He quickly culls out the duds and then creates an impromptu slideshow that the guests can watch during the reception.

I depend on DLPro to rename my files as I download using the shutter actuations from my Nikon cameras. Is there a way to just download the Jpegs (or any other selection?)

The RAW and JPEG files show up separately in the DL Pro window. If you are using Version 2.0.x, it's probably easier to use List View to see which are the NEF and which the JPEG files. Use the customary Windows Ctrl+click to select the JEPGs one by one, then Ctrl+right-click on one of the selected files and click on 'Download selected'.

You might also want to consider using one of the {E}/%E tokens in the download path, to sort the NEFs and JPEGs into different folders; this could help when you come to download the NEFs having already worked on the JPEGs.

Note for Chris: this process would be easier if there were an option, as in BB Pro, to sort the view by file type; the selection could then be done with Shift+click.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, David! You have opened my eyes to several features of DLPro that I had overlooked (like right-clicking to get the download selected menu item.)

I was a little dismayed at first with the thought of selecting several hundred photos one at a time. That would eat up any time advantage of downloading just the jpegs. While your suggestion that we be able to sort by type would be ideal, there is a great workaround in this case: Sort by Size! The raw files are 20 times larger than the jpegs, so there is no overlap, and I can quickly select and download them.

Thank you for your help!

Sort by size - of course! Now we've both learned something.

Several hundred photos? That's some quick presentation ...
