After using DLP for years, I just upgraded to the newest one. I am using the "new" { } instead of the old %...but when I set up the download directory with f:\{j} (just like my old version that has worked great for years).........I do not get a job code window to fill in like before.
What am I doing wrong??

To get the Job Code input box to come up when DL Pro starts, you need to tick the 'Prompt for job code every time Downloader Pro is run' box on the 'Download Path' tab of Preferences.
Is this what you wanted?

Same for me.
also choosing the "Prompt for job code ..." I'm not able to get the window asking for job code. I have to manually modify.

Which event is loading Downloader - camera or card?
I understand that when transferring from a computer storage device, several aspects of Downloader are not invoked as there is no way of knowing whether they are valid for a particular use. If using Downloader in this way, Ctl-J can be used to bring up the dialog window.
Another problem is that you may have a Registry cleaner that does not know about the latest Breeze software, and it is removing the settings stored in the registry, leaving Downloader to use the "defaults".

Ok, in fact this happen when I try to download from a specific directory.
Downloading from the memory card open the dialog window.
Thanks

I have used DL Pro for more than a year now and until recently, that is if my memory is correct, the Job Code prompt would come up BEFORE DL Pro ran through all the available pictures to be downloaded from my memory card.
What happens now is that it loads all the available pics to be downloaded and sets the download path using the LAST Job Code that I had used (I have {J} as part of my download path) and then after reading through all the pics it prompts for Job Code.
I then CHANGE the Job Code to what it should be and now it has to go and UPDATE all the Download Paths to use the new Job Code.
I use DL Pro mainly for the large photoshoots that I do which involve anywhere from 3000 - 10,000 photos so it takes a LONG time to do the updating. This could all be avoided if it just asked me for the Job Code first like I "THINK" it used to.
Chris??? Do I remember correctly, am I missing the point of why it behaves the way it does?
I have the EVENTS set to run on Memory Card detection and Vista prompts me which program to use, I tell it to run DL Pro. I also have the CHECKBOX selected that says "Prompt for Job Code everytime Downloader is run"
thanks,

Hmm, with DL Pro 2.1 Beta 1, it never prompts me for Job code or IPTC data despite having the "Prompt me for..." check boxes being checked for both job code and IPTC data.

It will only prompt for the job code at startup if there are one or more images to download and the job code token {J} is used in the IPTC data or the download directory/filename specification.

I can't remember all the details without going back through my design notes, but one of the reasons it works this way is so that you only get a prompt if there are some files to download.

Well, I can see the logic in that... but for me, I'd much rather hit CANCEL than wait 2x the time it takes to scan all the files. Once before I enter the JobCode and once after I update it.
p.s. Why would you open DL Pro if you didn't have files to download? isn't it called DOWNLOADer pro ;)

I open DLP without wanting to download. Sometimes it is to set back my standard settings after a special download, or to ensure that an error is not repeated later on.
Then there is firing it up to check on things I read about in this forum.:)

Why would you open DL Pro if you didn't have files to download? isn't it called DOWNLOADer pro ;)
Reasons:
1. If you don't have Autoplay and DL Pro to load when the card is inserted, but have DL Pro look for the card after it starts. No, it's not the way I do it either, but that's the way DL Pro works on first install.
2. (more relevant for most users, I think) If you want to use a folder on the hard drive as the source for DL Pro, including when you use the drag-and-drop method of specifying that source.
Of course, you are always, in some sense, intending to download files; the real issue is the sequence of actions you use for that purpose. There are, I suggest, legitimate reasons for opening DL Pro before a source has been specified, in which case the automated features cannot be activated.
That said, the sequence of events you favour also makes more sense to me. If the Job Code is going to be edited, it is surely right to populate the DL Pro window only when any settings which are dependent on the current value of {J} have been established. Or am I missing something?

Well, that's what I've it set up as. Both the directory and the IPTC data use the {J} token. Still doesn't prompt me though. Even after I point it at a CF drive or similar. Also not good to have it run through the entire CF card when I change the job code manually.

It will prompt for the job code at start up if it finds an image source containing images and the {J} token is used in the download path or IPTC data. It won't automatically display the prompt if you start DLPro and then use File->Open Source Directory... but you can display it by typing Ctrl+J or selecting Edit->Jobe code...
Another reason for listing the images before prompting for the job code is so that you can see the thumbnails before entering the job code. This is useful because it means you can look at the thumbnails to identify the subject if you have several memory cards to download.

I can quite see this, but this initial listing will not be needed in all cases, and, as posts to this thread have shown, can actually be irritating. This seems to indicate that the behaviour ought to be user-controllable in some way.
One idea would be to dispense with the initial listing (or alternatively control it with a setting in Preferences), and to have a 'Refresh' button in the Job Code dialogue box, so that users can see the contents of the card if they wish, but are not forced to wait for a lengthy refresh.

Wow, a forum with good input! Don't come across these too often.
I use DL Pro 95% of the time to download THOUSANDS of photos from ONE job, therefore the JobCode is the same for 1 or more CF Cards that I have from the shoot.
So for me, I'd like it to prompt Job Code without doing ANYTHING else first, and then i can hit F5 or whatever. Maybe having multiple options under the Prompt For JobCode option would be best. Each person could be free to pick his own flavor.
If I only have a few dozen pictures to download, then I usually just copy with windows explorer, although now that I see I can do GPS and ITPC data from DL Pro I will probably start using it for smaller downloads as well.
On a side note, has anyone seen this
