I have the WFT-E3 wireless file transmitter as an accessory to my Canon 40D. The WFT-E3 manual indicates that EOS Utility can be used for remote capture (via a PTP connection over the WFT-E3's wireless or wired LAN), but my intention is to use DSLR Remote Pro instead. Can DSLR Remote Pro operate over the LAN of the WFT-E3?

Unfortunately the Canon EOS SDK doesn't support the WFT-E3 and so you can only use Canon's software.

You could use a network USB hub connected to an ethernet LAN and then have a standard USB cable of up to 5m to the camera. I've tried this with the Belkin Network USB Hub (http://www.belkin.com/networkusbhub) and it works really well with the 40D and DSLR Remote Pro. Live view images on my lightedly loaded LAN were indistinguishable from using a direct USB connection to the PC.
