I was surfing for a wireless connection between the camera and a computer. No wimax yet and looking at the Eye-fi and surfing further and further I got the following idea.

What do you need for a connection??

An USB connection, WireLess (WiFi), wireless router and a computer. The last two items is not the problem however the usb to WiFi is not so easy and reading the Canon WFT-E3 is not supported yet.

So I thought what kind of device can we use to transfer data from USB to WiFi and is also programmable???

Then I got the Idea to use an PDA or a Smartphone because you can run a programm on it so I want to ask if you want to look at my suggestion to make an programme that connects the USB of the device to WiFi and that uses the power of the phone or PDA, the memory and the programming abillity of Windows enviroment on the smartphone of PDA.

Best regards, Marcel

I'm not sure this would be technically possible. Most PDAs and smart phones are USB slaves not hosts and can't control other devices via USB.

Silex make a wireless USB hub: SX-2000WG (http://www.silexamerica.com/sx-2000wg.html) which works OK provided you have a strong WiFi signal. It's faster and more reliable if you use a wired ethernet connection.

I am not looking forward too carry arround a USB HUB connected to my camera. ;)

I want to use a notebook/wireless router to receive a WIFI network signal transmitted by the phone or pda which is connected by USB through a cable to the USB of the camera.

You can put the phone or PDA in your pocket and connect the cable to the camera and start shooting. I know the usb speed on most phones is only USB 1.1 thus to slow however who know we will heve USB 2 on the phones.

To create a network you will need either a router or something to act as an access point. For this I use a small usb2 device from Zyxel. They are only a couple of inches long so very small and offer 54mbps. See here:

Only other option is to create an ad-hoc connection but that will be far slower at about 11mbps.
