Some time ago I tried using DSLR Remote Capture. In the end I went for Canon's WiFi. However one of my 1Dmk2's has had the file numbering altered to IMG_xxxx. Now Canon claim this cannot be done as its not an option with the MK2 only the MK2n. I know you can change the prefix in DSLR but thought it was only for transfered images. I cannot remember using anyother software that would give me this option. So is it possible for DSLR to change the prefix in camera as all my images from that body now begin with IMG_ xxxx. Restoring camera defaults doesnt seem to change anything.

As far as I know it isn't possible to change the file prefix used by the 1D2 or 1D2N, but you can specify it using the 1D3 and 1DS3. You can of course use Downloader Pro to rename the images as you download them and replace the camera's prefix with IMG_

Thanks Chris
I am at a loss to remember how I did it. All images in that body have IMG_xxxxx straight out of the camera. I think i remember changing it but not how!!!

Perhaps it is switching the color space from sRGB to Adobe RGB?
On both mij 400D and 40D images made with the color space set to sRGB get the filename IMG_xxxxx, while those made with the color space set to Adobe RGB get the filename _MG_xxxxx. I use this to avoid duplicate filenames when downloading images to my PC. As far as I know the in-camera color space setting does not affect the RAW image.

Graham, I have two 1D Mark II's (and a new Mark III) and I have never found a way to change the prefix of the images in the camera. You're saying that you've done it, and I'd like you to really confirm that, as I strongly believe it can't be done.

What I always did was use Chris' DownloaderPro software, and with that set up the way I want it, it automatically renames images any way I want. So I'm getting the custom prefix I want.

With the new Mark III you can change the prefix, but since I always use DLPro, I'm not going to bother.

Cheers!

Right on, thank you for pointing this out. I have been wondering why my image filenames changed and could not find documentation on it. This seems to explain it. Mystery solved :D.
