View Full Version : Does "main" view display raw or the embedded jpeg?

What is being shown in the main view? Is it the raw file, or the embedded jpeg? The help files say "View Actual Photo" does a conversion of the raw file, and displays the full size image. Nowhere can I find any explanation of how the assorted thumbnail files and the main file are generated. What's the scoop?

As Clive always reminds us, you never see the RAW file itself; you can only see the embedded JPEG or a conversion. With one exception, BB Pro shows the embedded JPEG, as this is the fastest method of display.
The exception is "View Actual image" (Ctrl+B). Normally this too displays the embedded JPEG, but if you set "High Quality" display (Ctrl+Q in Main View), Ctrl+B will display a conversion of the RAW file using default settings. This can be a lengthy process if you do not have a fast machine.
Hope this explains things.
