error message: exe is not a valid Win32 appliation

I recently downloaded and installed Google Desktop Search. Now I am unable to launch any programs as I get the following error message:

"program name".exe is not a valid Win32 applicaton.

Does anyone know how to rectify this problem without having to reinstall Windows XP? And then have to subsequently install all my programs again. I have run Windows XP repair without any success.

Uninstall Google's search? Have you tried that?

Aways the first thought when a problem comes up right after installing something.
