Hey Guys,

Stupid question. When I start DSLR Remote and the camera is recognized and it goes into photo booth mode (it is set to do that automatically), for some reason getting the camera to take a picture in the beginning is difficult and it errors out. I am using a 20D... Once the first picture is taken it works fine for the night.

Later on, if the camera is somehow unable to focus lock, the shot sequence is aborted. The screen stops on taking.jpg and never goes back to ready.jpg after the error is cleared. Can this be fixed?

Need help with both situations! Thanks!

I haven't come across this problem before. When you say it "errors out" what exactly happens? Is there an error message displayed on the screen?

If the camera is set to One-Shot AF and it cannot focus it will not take the picture. You could try setting it to AI Servo AF but this may result in some shots not being in focus. The best solution is probably to use manual focus.

The initial error is "unable to release shutter", which causes a series of beeps until finally the program completely tanks and there is no way to reestablish connection with the camera until you reboot the machine.

I can't even unplug the camera and plug it back in to reestablish connection between the laptop and camera. It requires the reboot.

Not sure if the error is specific to a 20D or not.

It could be a camera problem. Are you using the latest camera firmware and drivers? The original firmware that came with the 20D wasn't very reliable when connected to a PC. You should be able to download these from Canon's website: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct
