Hey Chris,

I was just wondering if you are planning to, or have given any thought as to whether you are going to, update PSRemote (and the others) to work with Windows 7. If so, how long do you expect before these versions are available.

I'm looking at buying a new computer, but will need to run PSRemote on it. I can probably hold off for a few months, but if it will be closer to a year, I will just go ahead and get one now with XP. Thanks

Its my understanding that windows 7 has backward compatiability with xp and vista so i think it should work out of the box. But I have not checked it with beta copy that has been out to make sure yet.

DSLR Remote Pro, PSRemote and NKRemote all work on both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 RC 1.

With PSRemote Windows 7 always puts up a security warning before running it. I haven't worked out why this is displayed but I suspect it is because Canon's PowerShot libraries are designed for Windows XP. Apart from this slight inconvenience PSRemote appears to run without any problems on Windows 7.

With NKRemote you need to select Vista compatibility mode by right clicking on the desktop icon and selecting the compatibility tab (you only need to do this once).

Kind of a mute point since there are no more point and shoots that work with PSremote? Better to just stick with XP which is more compatible with all hardware.

which canon point and shoot cameras will actually work on windows 7? OR are we stuck having to upgrade to DSLR's?
If PSremote works on windows 7, but does that do us any good if none of the camera drivers will?

PowerShot models that work on Vista should also work on Windows 7. Older PowerShot models that require separate drivers to be installed (e.g. PowerShot G1, G2, G3, G5, G6) won't work on Vista or Windows 7 with PSRemote because Canon have never released suitable drivers. Newer PowerShot models that support remote capture and don't require separate drivers to be installed (e.g. PowerShot G7, G9, G10) should work on both Vista and Windows 7. The latest PowerShot models (e.g. G11, SX120 IS and S90) don't support remote capture and can't be controlled on any version of Windows.

Just tested the s series.
s1, s2 do not work
s3,s5 do work.

so it looks like the useable camera list is pretty small

s3, s5, g7, g9, and g10.

Windows xp supports probably 3 times as many cameras. So much for progress

You can add the SX100 IS and SX110 IS to the list of cameras that work plus any camera that supports live view and does not require a separate driver for Windows XP. Whether a camera needs a driver for XP can be looked up on Canon's website:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct

Unfortunately Canon don't make it easy to identify what their cameras can do. They don't list which models support remote capture, many models have different names in different markets which makes them hard to identify and when you do work out which camera it is you have to look it the driver requirements via the downloads link.
