hi - just to let you know that you can use the Canon EOS 500D with motion detection by setting the motion detection utility (Zonetrigger.com) hotspots on the desktop over the live view window with 'screen capture' acting as the source - not DSL Remote.

The program will then fire the camera on a motion detection basis but it seems that this only works when Zonetrigger is minimised to the task bar.

So both PS Remote and DSL Remote can be used on a motion detection basis.

If anybody experiences significant stuttering in the live camera scene, then try setting your desktop monitor to mirror the video setting on the camera. ie if using 1280 or whatever, set the monitor resolution to this setting and you will notice a significant improvement in the live picture view.
