I want to be able to activate the VIDEO RECORDING option on the 5D or 7D, etc. AFTER the photobooth app runs it's sequence of photos. I've installed, etc. the new update but it looks like it's one or the other... not both. you can either take photos or you can do video via live view but not both. am i missing something? Kind of pointless if this is the case.

I would think most people would either run a photo booth or a video booth and not a combo photo/video booth, so I don't think only being able to do one or the other makes it pointless.
However, I did just look at the video mode, and in its current state, I don't think it is really ready to be used in any sort of video booth. Hopefully the mode will continue to progress where it can be controlled just like the photo booth mode with a full screen mode where you can press a button to start a recording and the movie is downloaded automatically when finished.
Obviously, a lot of that is probably dependent on Canon and the limitations of the cameras. It may never reach the point of being a viable tool for use in video booths, but I hope it gets there eventually.

The video support added in the latest version of DSLR Remote Pro is only currently available through the live view window and isn't intended for photobooth use. It's taken a lot of R&D to get it to work at all and this is just the initial implementation.

I know you guys think I'm crazy but literally I would be in heaven if I could just run the photobooth software and then simply press the button on the back of the camera to start recording video on the card. that's it. no live view, no nothing. just simply the ability to record onto the card by pressing the button after the photo sequence is taken.

You should be able to do this already. If you put the camera into movie mode before entering photobooth mode and have a memory card in the camera you can start and stop movie capture using the camera controls. After capture a THM thumbnail will be downloaded to the PC but the main MOV movie file will be stored on the camera's memory card and will need to be downloaded separately.

Chris, let me make sure that I'm understanding this correctly...
Here's MY goal of being able to use the movie mode in shooting in the booth. Instead of the usual memory/sign-in book that so many of us happen to use, I'd like the option of being able to record guests in the booth speaking to the guest of honor AFTER their photo strip sequence. Also, I would imagine that my booth operator would be in control of this in some way, however I think I have exhausted a few options. If by remote trigger, the camera was released in record mode, that means that it is also in the timer shooting setting, something that isn't quite good for the photo booth sequence. If I place the camera simply in movie mode, and hit the record button at the back of the camera that works. However the idea that one would need to open the back of their booth to do that every time doesn't sound appealing. Now I understand that it has taken a lot to get the interaction with the camera's video shooting mode to the point where it is with the several cameras and the several pieces of software which you guys have, but I have one simple question. Is there a way that shooting mode could be made via the camera's remote access that we can then set to a function key or something set to the touch screen? Am I pipe dreaming, asking for too much, or is that a viable request?

Have you ever concidered just using two different cameras for your idea. One for strips, the other for video?

It might be simpler to use two cameras and two copies of DSLR Remote Pro: one in photobooth mode taking stills shots and the other in movie mode taking and downloading video clips controlled by the booth operator.
Alternatively it is probably possible to write an AutoHotKey script to exit photobooth mode, select live view and movie mode then start the clip, run it for a pre-determined time, stop the clip, download the movie and switch back to photobooth mode. In practice you'd probably want to break this down into a number of steps each controlled by a function key e.g. something like
F6 - exit photobooth mode, select live view and movie mode
F7 - start video clip
F8 - stop video clip and download to PC
F9 - exit live view and switch back to photobooth
