Do Nikon cameras like the D5000 suffer from the same problems with flashes and live view as the Canon DSLRs? It's time to get my third booth assembled and I'm think of going with DSLRs.

The Nikon D5000 doesn't have exposure simulation for live view and so the live view will show bright images whatever the exposure setting. This means you can set the camera to manual exposure with the required shutter and aperture for the flash and the live view images will still be fine. You can do the same thing with a mid range Canon DSLR (e.g. 50D) by turning off exposure simulation in live view.
