I am having what may be a camera problem with a Canon Rebel XS with less than 7k shutter clicks / actuations (see this post (http://www.breezesys.com/forum/showthread.php?p=17360&posted=1#post17360)). This raises a more general question: how many shutter clicks should I expect from these cameras? At what point do you retire the camera? Are some models (say, a 40D) more rugged than others?

Any insight you can share would be much appreciated.

no one knows for sure, buy a back up and when the main one breaks use the back up. could it be that simple? yes.
does a $3000 camera have a better shutter than a $300 one? A: Yes.
that being said from a business persepctive still wiser to buy the cheaper camera and a back up than one expensive camera.

as far as 3 black frames out of 800, it's probably a fluke, if you see it a lot, sell the camera noting the defect and buy a new one. they are only $300 new.

I think you are better at buying cameras than I am. I paid $409 for a new XS body with a US factory warranty. Do you know where I can find same for $300?
