I just finished an alternative coin op solution, and it will be field tested this weekend, but here are the details.

Source in the US was Suzo Happ www.happcontrols.com

40-1500-04 ELECTRONIC ROLLDOWN MECH W/LED $34.95
42-08012-071 METER 12V 7 DIGIT W/BRKT AND $8.00
49-2160-11 POWER ADAPTOR 12V 3.33 AMP. F/ $16.95
40-0057-00 DOOR ASSY, SMALL, BLANK $24.55
42-1102-10 CASHBOX BLACK PLASTIC FOR $7.65
42-0701-00 BRASS TOKEN .984 X .060 $ 0.23

So the token chosen was .984" tokens as I dont want to handle money, just presold tokens.

Everything is from happcontrols for ease of ordering, others may be cheaper.

12 v supply powers the acceptor

the acceptor trips the counter (meter in above list)

and acceptor is wired to a USB to rs232 adaptor, Pin 1 to 4.

Acceptor trigger is set to 100ms, (acceptor trips at 30 or 50 or 100 ms, the usb/rs232 adaptor doesnt see it at 30, 50 does work, 100 was chosen for a safety factor)

Acceptor also trips the non resetable counter if a coin is accepted, it rejects all us coins after insterting a token into the comparator slot on the acceptor.

It works well, so far 200 out of 200 tests, it doesnt rely on scripts or wiring that is hard to figure out.

The door and coin bin are in the list for ease of use, the job could be easier, but this door makes it easy to integrate...

Pictures later once it gets built in. with wiring details at the same time.

Its easier than you think...

sounds simple enough, though the AHK script works fine if you ask me. and having to deal with tokens seems like re arranging deck chairs on the titantic?

instead of collecting money in the booth, you simple transfer your work to outside the booth?

The location where the token system is used is a long term lease in a museum type setting, the tokens are sold in their giftshop with a pouch to put the prints in and a token, Then the customer can take their time getting to the booth. No operators, the gift shop employees start up each morning, and the token triggers the booth. Not wildly popular, but it is exposure and awareness with a profit too.
