After each photo is taken, there is a one or two second frozen image on the screen, and then the live view kicks in again. This repeats for all the photos in the sequence. My issue is that the frozen image for each photo, is not what the final image is.

is there a way to marry these up so the frozen image is the same as what's printed?

What you need to do is set the image preview time to the number of seconds you want it to be displayed. You also need to create a release.jpg image which will be displayed while the photo is being taken. This will replace the live view image which would remain frozen on the screen while the camera is taking the picture.
