Hi Chris,

Using Canon550D, DSLR2.4, Win7, touchscreen, i3 pc.

Camera settings, 1/125, F10, ISO200

Just downloaded the new version to a new laptop for a new booth. when in 'full screen photobooth mode' all the photos were blurry with movement, in that if you moved your hands they became a blur in the photo - this was despite having the above settings.

After much troubleshooting - switching the hotshoe, cable and even trying a different make studio light - still the same. Also tried uninstalling/reinstalling the DSLR.

But, this problem was only in 'photobooth mode' - if we released the shutter through camera 'live view' - then no movement on the photos at all.

Anyway, rigged up an older laptop from another booth - running DSLR2.3 - using exactly the same camera/setup/lighting - and using the same 'profile' - so everything the same except the software version. It ran perfectly, no blurs at all, exactly as expected.

Therefore, finally deduced the problem was with the software.

After much deliberation decided to turn off 'external flash mode' - problem solved.

What we also noticed, is that when you do file/full screen photobooth mode that the camera speed changes from 1/125 to 'bulb' - is this normal? When you close photobooth mode it has reverted back to 1/125 ??

Anyway 2 questions a) Are others getting this with 2.4 ? b) Is it possible to retro fit an older version of DSLR to the laptop, even though it is a new subscription? If so, can you post the link,

thanks

External flash mode hasn't changed between versions 2.3 and 2.4. It is normal for the shutter speed to be set to bulb when live view is displayed in photobooth mode because this disables live view exposure simulation and ensures the live view images are correctly exposed. When the photos are taken the shutter speed is set to one value below 1/250 to synchronize with the flash (i.e. 1/200 or 1/180 depending on whether the camera is set to 1/3 or 1/2 exposure level increments).

hi Chris,

but how do you explain the fact that with the same camera/lights etc it works perfectly running 2.3, but when we use the 2.4 laptop we get the blurs on the photos - but then when 'external flash mode' is turned off it behaves ok ?

Also during the testing/troubleshooting thinking it may be the camera we slotted in a 1000D, exactly the same - blurs on the 2.4 with 'external flash mode' ticked, no blurs with 2.3 with 'external flash mode' ticked. No blurs on 2.4 when 'external flash mode' not ticked.

Both cameras have not had any fiddling done to their settings. The 550D is straight out of the box.

It's hard to say without seeing what settings you're using. Please can you save the settings to file and send me a copy together with a sample photo taken with the camera using v2.4 so that I can try to reproduce the problem on my system.

Hi Chris,

sorry, the booth has now gone to its new owner (with external flash mode turned off). The camera settings were as above. The photos showed movement blur.

As previously mentioned we tried 2 cameras, 2 hotshoes, 2 pc cables, 2 studio lights - all produced blurs using 2.4 on external flash mode - we then uninstalled/reinstalled version 2.4 - same result. Hooked up another laptop running 2.30 - no blurs with external flash mode.
Hooked up the new laptop, turned off external flash mode - no blurs.

Please send me the settings files and sample photos when you can. I can't reproduce the problem on my system and so I really need this information to be able to investigate the problem.

I concur with this Chris.

After many years of using PSRemote, we have decided to build another booth.

I purchased DSLR Remote Pro 2.6, and have decided to use Live View as a preview for our clients. Our previous booth did not by design, but as an open air booth this time around we are.

I am using Canon EOS Rebel T2i aka. 550D as the previous user was. My flash is a 600ex-RT
Camera settings 1/200 4.5 ISO 100 used AF Modes (one shot and RM)

Whenever a release is done in the program without entering Full Screen Photobooth Mode and External Flash Mode, there is never a problem with Shutter speed. Once it is turned on the problems start. Picture 1 of the sequence is properly taken at 1/200. Pictures 2-4 are then taken at a shutter speed of 1sec.

I realize I can use constant lighting to have them show in Live View then expose them properly with the flash, but I just think it would be cleaner without it.

My first event with this booth is Saturday, so hopefully I can get an answer ;)

Thank you for all your help.

I don't have a 600 EX-RT flash but this is what I get when using a 420EX:

Camera set to manual exposure mode 1/200, f/4.5 ISO 100, external flash mode off:
Live view is dark. All four photos correctly exposed and taken with a shutter speed of 1/200 sec

Camera set to manual exposure mode 1/200, f/4.5 ISO 100, external flash mode on:
Live view is bright. All four photos correctly exposed and taken with a shutter speed of 1/200 sec

Camera set to Av exposure mode f/4.5 ISO 100, external flash mode off:
Live view is bright. All four photos correctly exposed and taken with a shutter speed of 1/200 sec or 1/60 depending on the Flash sync. speed in Av mode custom setting in the camera.

Please try setting the camera to Av exposure mode, turn external flash mode off and set the custom function in the camera to Flash sync. speed in Av mode = 2:1/200 sec (fixed).
