View Full Version : Convert to DNG?

I use downloader pro to download all images taken with my Canon 20D. Given the current controversy regarding the likeliihood of still having an appropriate raw converter for these images 10 years from now, I am considering converting all my raw images to the Adobe DNG format.
Is there a way to extend DP to allow this conversion to automatically take place during download? I'd just as soon never have the CR2 make it onto my hard drive and instead end up with DNG files.

Thanks,

Tom

I have discussed this with Adobe, but at the moment it isn't possible because their DNG converter doesn't have a command line interface.

BTW I'd be cautious about discarding the CR2 files as you will lose some of the shooting data unless you embed them in the DNG files.

But,

the good news is that DNG Converter now copies over all info into the DNG file, although not always readable (infamous NEF WB encryption). It is also possible with the current version to embedd the original file within the DNG for later extraction.

To be honest, I am now rethinking my workflow; it would still not be perfect since cameras do not support DNG directly (except Leica's R8/R9 digiback).
