Proofs: Resizing for Web

I use the Proofs tool to resize my images for web display (and create a border with text, sharpen, convert color space, etc). I have been wondering what algorithm Proofs uses to work its magic in the resizing process, and wondering how it compares to other tools (PSCS Bicubic Sharper, QImage Pyramid, Fred Miranda Web Presenter), etc.). I'd be interested to hear opinions, experiences, or more information generally.
