We're having a problem printing with BB Pro 1.1.3.

We use a laptop which runs Win XP with a P4 1.7GHz and 512MB RAM. Pagefile is set to 4GB and the printer spooler has 10GB reserved to play. Prints are made on a commercial grade dye sub printer (runs on USB) that can handle what we throw at it. We use setup this on location.

Here's our workflow. We use the proofs function to prepare the files (logo, watermark, max size 8x8 @ 300dpi, crop at 6.06x8 in., watermark 1 and 2, save as JPEG 95%.

Then, using thumbnail view, we select all pictures in the folder and send them to print. Our page setup is: all margins at 0, output at 300dpi, resize and rotate to fit page, center on page, thumbnails columns: 1 thumbnails rows: 1.

Everytime we tried this we got the same story. The printing process will go just fine up until about 35-40 prints then, it'll stop. We have to shut down the laptop to get rid of what's left in the spooler. Then we can send only a few images at a time until it crashes again. Then, it's one picture at a time.

I was wondering if the fact that BB creates a document with multiple pages instead of sending each picture as a single file has something to do with this. I know that using the single view is the way to print single images but it wouldn't work for us. We need to be able to select all the files in a folder and send them to the printer at once, but as single files.

Any idea?

It's hard to know what is causing this problem. It might be a problem with print spooling, the printer drivers or the way BBPro is printing the images. It's always worth checking the printer manufacturer's site for the latest printer drivers as this often fixes the problem.
Alternatively you could use the print to file option in BBPro to create JPEG, TIFF or PNG images for each page and then use a different app to send them to your printer.

Thanks Chris,

We already have the latest drivers and firmware for our printer. I guess we'll have to use another app to print but we'd rather keep all our workflow within BB. It's so nice to download with Downloader Pro, switch directly to BB Pro, use the proofing function and send to printer.

We wouldn't have to print to file like you suggested as our proofing step creates the files the way we want them. That's at least one step we could skip. We might have to rotate horizontals to make them vertical so that the printer can use a single set of settings...
